Discretionary Income Self-Assessment Tool

This Discretionary Income Self-Assessment Tool is available to help you self-assess and visualise your discretionary income and make informed decisions about your gambling behaviours.

Why use this self-assessment tool?

Self-assessment tools can be valuable resources for promoting safer gambling behaviours and reducing the risk of gambling-related harm. Independent research shows that people who keep a household budget and consider how much money they can afford to spend on gambling, are less likely to experience gambling-related harm.

It is recommended you regularly assess your financial situation and consider the potential impact of gambling on your overall well-being.

By considering your discretionary income and budgeting for gambling activities, you are proactively engaging in safer gambling behaviours. Pairing this tool with other Crown PlaySafe tools, resources and support services can help you make informed decisions about your gambling activities.

Data Privacy

The information you provide through this tool will not be shared with Crown. The tool does not save your results, it will only be visible to you. The data you enter will be stored on your personal device for up to 30 minutes once you press ‘submit’.

What is discretionary income?

Discretionary income is the amount of money that remains after you subtract all your essential expenses (e.g. housing, loans, utilities, food, insurances) from your take-home income. You might choose to save or invest your discretionary income, or you might choose to spend it on non-essential items such as entertainment.

How do you get the most out of this tool?

Provide accurate information, including all sources of income and expenses that relate to you and any other person you are financially responsible for.

Ensure all fields marked with an asterisk (*) are completed (these are the minimum fields required to calculate your total discretionary income). If you do not have any income or outgoing expenses for a field marked with an asterisk, the amount should be written as ‘0’.

The tool will timeout if a session remains idle for longer than five (5) minutes. We recommend completing all fields in one sitting to avoid losing the data you have entered.
